One-Pan “Glad To Be Alive” Brekkie

For those who are familiar with my current living situation, in short, I’m living in a hotel, and the wife, well, away on a family emergency. While the room is generally small, it does have a kitchen, of sorts, if a microwave, a mini fridge, a sink, and a two burner stove can be called a kitchen. Along with the pot and pan, and dish service for three, it presents a challenge. Since I tend to take on such challenges, it should at least represent something very accessible to a person who needs to cook in less than ideal circumstances, without sacrificing the qualities of good food. Desperado Chilly Sauce

More On Curry

As I mentioned earlier curry is too big of a topic for a single post. While I devoted the last article to wet curries, this one is more about the dry variety, specifically those from South Asia. Curry, while generally … Continue reading

The name, by the way, was thought up originally, just as a cute name, probably tipping it’s hat to the bastardised spelling of ‘deutch’ the German word for German. Continue reading

Curried Onion and Potato Hash

One of the things I came up with that feels like it takes a long time, has great flavor and can act like a comfort food is a curried potato and onion hash. It makes use of simple flavors and simple techniques to make a delicious accompaniment to anything else you’d have at breakfast. Continue reading

Home Brew Char Siew

Where you want to make an easy dish with an Asian feel, yet keep it healthy. This is the kind of question I used to ask growing up in an active household. Sometimes when I was young, my parents would be out until late, or on vacation, the cooking duties would fall upon me. My sister, preferred it that way, as she had not yet found a need to know how to throw something together. Continue reading

Ayam Pong Teh (Nonya-Style Chicken Stew)

Many westerners usually look at Southeast Asia and assume some simple things: it’s all spicy, and all hot. Not so, At least from my understanding. While there are some dishes that might make a firewalker swoon, there are also milder dishes, including this one that actually uses no chillies at all. Continue reading
